Prerequisites, Co-requisites, and Registration Restrictions:(prereq: JAPN 202 or JAPN 300)
~.:Course Reflective Narrative:.~
1) What does this course contribute to your fulfillment of the MLOs?
This contributes to MLOs 1 and 4. MLO 1: Language and Communication and MLO 4: Research and Technology.
2) What work did you complete in this learning experience/course that illustrates your development in this area? (Evidence/work you did in this course)?
This course provided extra time to work on our capstone and extra time with our teachers. We also went to a couple of library sessions that taught the students how to effectively research and gather the right data and sources for a very effective capstone project. Through this course, I also felt I enhance my language skills in writing and reading, I learn how to write a thesis(worthy of graduation), research in-depth around survey based data, construct and create a data-based PowerPoint, and finally be able to speak for about 17 minutes with the most accurate and pitch-correct Japanese due to practice, practice and MUCH MORE practice, especially with my teachers and classmates.
3) What knowledge did you gain from this course that is a significant contribution/outcome for your major/this MLO? (AHA! - moment)
The knowledge I gained was when I began to understood what the requirement of my graduation project was. I was very confused from the beginning and felt very pressured and depressed, over-thinking about everything that had to be completed, until the teachers had explained with samples and definitions..the project began to get simpler and seemed that I could actually accomplish this task in order to graduate. The other time I felt a AHA! moment was when I had to practice my script for the presentation during the capstone festival. I had approached my script in a completely inaccurate way. I had thought about the time-limit rather than the pitch and flow of how a native Japanese speaker should be speaking. I allowed this to hinder my learning experience. When my teachers gave me multiple chances to re-learn time after time after time....the pressure had almost got to me, yet I was able to breathe and take it slowly and never give up. I truly appreciated all I was favored with and went through in this journey.
4) What area do you wish to develop further? (goals)
I still care to further my skill in speaking correctly and be able to write anything from stories to answering questions to constructing "sakubun" correctly.
5) How do you intend to further explore this learning experience? (Next steps)
My biggest goal in life is to master the language of Japanese for this will be used somehow and in some way in my first major of animation. So, after I complete my time and successfully graduate from California State University of Monterey Bay, I plan to practice and exercise everything I have learned in this class.
