STUDY ABROAD EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Nagoya University of Foreign Studies
Location: Nagoya, Japan
Term Length - Full Year_FALL 2012-SPRING 2013
My Study Abroad Experience:
Fall 2012
Spring 2013
Through this experience of Studying Abroad, I had come to understand what it means to be in a place where I could not feel familiar no matter what I could do to make it culturally comfortable for me. However, I surprisingly did not receive cultural shock from leaving everything I knew behind for a year.
I have also learned a lot and I feel I had gained some kind of confidence being in a country where I am having to use my second language. There were times where I felt helpless and useless due to my skills in Japanese very limited. I believe I was able to better and enhance my skills by observing the cultural and keeping my mind on studies when classes began. I am a person who is driven and focused on what needs to get done for failure leaves quite a depressive guilt and sadness on my mind.
When I began to travel and see in the city of Nisshin I was residing in, I was slowly beginning to feel like home.
